Behind every good set of shelves is a great designer. At Modern Shelving, we pride ourselves in having a design team that is not only great at what they do, but one that goes above and beyond when it comes to customer service. And Ryan Casenillo is no exception.
Based out of the Philippines, Casenillo began working for Modern Shelving in April of 2023, alongside lead designer Hailey Strange. In June, he transitioned to a full-time role and has been working with clients on design projects ever since. Here, Casenillo shares some details about his education, specific projects that stand out, and his favorite parts about working for Modern Shelving.
What is your educational and work background?
I earned my bachelor’s degree in civil engineering in 2015 and became a registered engineer in the Philippines in 2017. I initially worked at a construction firm, managing various projects like buildings and roadworks. In 2022, I got married, and shortly after, I decided to follow my passion for design and transitioned to freelancing full-time as a rendering specialist. It’s been an exciting journey so far!
What is your role at Modern Shelving?
At Modern Shelving, I’m one of the designers working on various projects with the team. I communicate with customers to understand their shelving needs and provide tailored solutions. My role involves collaborating on designs and ensuring our clients are satisfied with the results.
What it is like getting to work with so many different customers on so many different projects and spaces?
Working with a variety of customers on different projects and spaces is exciting and rewarding. Each client brings unique ideas and needs, which keeps my job fresh and inspiring. I listen closely to their visions and collaborate with my team to create designs that reflect their dreams. By combining our expertise with their input, we bring their ideas to life in a way that truly meets their expectations.
Are there any specific projects you’ve worked on that stick out?
One project that stands out to me is the Manga Spot project. I designed four branches for them and created a freestanding display for their manga books. This project was especially memorable because I love reading manga and watching anime, which inspired my work. It was great to be creative while meeting their needs, and seeing the design come to life after installation was really satisfying.
What feedback do you usually receive from customers?
I usually receive positive feedback from customers about the designs I create. They often appreciate how well the solutions meet their needs and enhance their spaces. Many clients mention that when they receive the product, it exceeds their expectations, especially in terms of quality. They love seeing how the final designs truly reflect their vision.
What is the most rewarding part about the job?
The most rewarding part of my job is seeing how happy clients are with the final designs. When they express their excitement and satisfaction after receiving the product, it feels amazing to know I’ve helped bring their vision to life. It’s fulfilling to know that my work makes a difference in their spaces and meets their needs.
