Introducing Shelvinator™ 3D: The Future of Custom Shelving Design at Your Fingertips!

Posted by Rebecca Parsons on

When it comes to decorating your home, every detail matters. Your home is an expression of yourself and it’s important that your furniture is functional yet mirrors your unique style.

When you purchase from Modern Shelving, you have the option to choose between countless premade shelving options or to create a custom shelving unit that is entirely your own. Shelving units are expensive, we know, and that’s why ours are built to last. To top it off, they’re modular, so you can take them with you should you move.

Because our shelving units are a long-term investment, we want to ensure you are getting exactly what you want. That’s why we created Shelvinator™ 3D, a digital design tool that allows you to design and try, before you buy.

What Is Shelvinator 3D?

Shelvinator™ 3D is an online design tool that allows you to visualize, customize, and bring your shelving system to life in a matter of minutes. Through Shelvinator 3D you can experiment with different designs, sizes, finishes, and setups and see how the shelves would look in your own home. Once you’ve settled on a design, you can chat with our design team to ensure it’s the right setup for you home and your needs.

How It Works

Premade or Custom Design?

First off, you’ll want to decide whether you prefer a premade design or a custom design. If you opt for a premade design, you’ll then have the choice to select between pole-mounted shelving, wall mounted shelving, or a room divider. Once you make your selection, hit the ‘Start Designing’ button to start creating. For each, there are multiple templates you can chose from, or you can completely build the design yourself. If you opt for a custom design, the sky’s the limit, or in this case, your ceiling.

Number of Bays

Once you’ve selected the type of shelving unit you want, you can delete or add additional bays, depending on how much shelving you require and the amount of space you have – you can view the unit with or without measurements.

Customize Your Setup

When you chose a premade design, there are still plenty of opportunities to customize your setup. When you click the ‘Assign Presets’ button you’ll have the chance to select whether you want aluminum or wood shelves and whether you want shelves or cabinets, or a combination of both. Click ‘Add Unit’ to add additional units and explore options. Mess around with different styles and options until you find one that you are fully satisfied with.

Note: If you opt for wooden shelves, 31” is the maximum width for wood shelves. If you go wider, the design will automatically default to aluminum. There are more options for wood than aluminum (traditional shelves, vinyl shelves, shelves with sides, open cabinets, drawers, file cabinets, etc.) but you must stay within that 31” width.

After you’ve created your shelving design, click on the ‘Finish Selection’ button. Here, you’ll be able to decide what finish you want on your wooden shelves/cabinets. You’ll also be able to choose which you color you prefer for your poles. Get creative and mix and match until you find a design that seamlessly matches your style and fits into your home.

Virtually Test in Your Home

Once you’ve finished creating your design, you’ll have the opportunity to see what your creation looks like in your home. This is one of our favorite features of Shelvinator™ 3D and we hope that you take full advantage of it!

In the upper right corner, there is a house icon which allows you to see what the shelves would look like in a home. If you click the ‘AR’ button, you’ll be presented with a digital QR code. Scan the QR code with your Smartphone, launch AR, and hold your phone up to the wall you plan to install the shelves on. This will allow you to get an idea of what the shelves will look like in your home.

Once you’re finished with your design, click ‘Submit to a Designer.’ Our designers will receive your layout via email and a member of the team will be in touch. If you’re an architect or an engineer, you can download the GLTF or BLEND and import the design to make tweaks yourself. We’re also working on adding a checkout option to our Shelvinator Design Tool soon, so you’ll be able to place your order directly once your design is finalized! Stay tuned for updates.
